Breastfeeding my first daughter started a little rocky. I thought she’d just latch on and away we’d go. My own mother breastfed 7 children so I thought it would be easy! In hind-sight, I should have taken a breastfeeding class so that I knew what to expect when the going got rough. I didn’t know I could reach out to a lactation consultant so we just hung in there and tried to learn this new dance together. It came with a lot of stress, pain, and self-doubt but the good news is that we eventually became great partners and enjoyed a 2 year breastfeeding journey together. When my second daughter arrived, breastfeeding was much easier and we, too, enjoyed a 2 year breastfeeding relationship. Muscle memory for me, I guess. Innate biological wiring for her.

While supporting parents as a birth doula, I started taking note that a large majority of my clientele struggled to breastfeed for one reason or another. I knew there was more that I could do to help them succeed and avoid the many pitfalls that I personally fell into. I wanted them to start off with confidence, knowledge, and support so I headed back to school to complete the many college courses and skills I would need to become a certified lactation consultant.

I live in Holladay, Utah with my husband, two daughters and our sweet cat. My free time is spent enjoying time with my little family, my extended family (6 siblings & 23 nieces & nephews & a handful of greatnieces/nephews!) and my dear friends. I also love being in the mountains hiking, biking, & skiing, along with always learning new things!
